Attention Students and Parents: It is that time of the year when we need to start thinking about Science Fair Projects. This will be carried out in several checkpoints throughout the year. All the information your student gathers will be placed into a power point presentation which will be a major part of his or her grade. Ten power point projects will be chosen from each grade to participate in the Skidmore-Tynan Science Fair. The first checkpoint which is coming up this next six weeks on Friday, November 20 will be the Purpose and Hypothesis for your student's experiment. The purpose of the experiment is what the experiment is trying to find out. This should be in the form of a question. The hypothesis is an educated guess about what will happen in the experiment and should be an if...then...statement. The following are several websites which would be beneficial to look through and come up with an idea for a science fair experiment. http://www.all-science-fair-projects.com/ http://www.ipl.org/youth/projectguide/ http://www.ars.usda.gov/is/kids/fair/ideasframe .htm Keep in mind, this must be something that is testable, there must be actual data or measurements taken during the experiment. A simple model of something is not an experiment. Tentative Schedule of Completion: Friday, November 20- Purpose and Hypothesis Due Friday, December 18- Procedure and Materials List Due Friday, January 22- Data and Conclusion Due (Must have performed actual experiment by this date) We hope that this will be a fun way for your student to learn the process of the scientific method and explore different topics in science. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions. Thank You, Amanda Stafford-8th Science, 7th Science Michelle Wishert-7th Science, 6th Science Debbie Benavidez-7th Science |
